What is the APlex?

The Alpena Events Complex (formerly Thunder Bay Recreation Center) is a community center situated in Alpena, Michigan.  Through the Park Family Foundation, we provide economical recreational and social options for area residents.

The Park Family Foundation assumed management on October 1, 2011 of the adjacent, county-owned twin-sheet Northern Lights Arena.  For information regarding NLA staff and the facility schedule, visit the NEW NLA website:  www.nlatoday.com

The APlex offers some incredible ammenities: like the Interlude Ballroom, which can accommodate up to 650 guests for social occasions or provide nearly 15,000 square feet of vendor space for trade shows.  We have 4 indoor tennis courts, a gymnasium, additional conference spaces, large catering kitchen, aerobic area, corporate fitness and outdoor beach volleyball courts.  As you can see, we offer a lot, all under one roof!

The APlex is home to the Alpena Tennis Association, Northern Tiger Karate Club and the United Way of Northeast Michigan.
