What is the APlex?

The Alpena Events Complex (formerly Thunder Bay Recreation Center) is a community center located in the North River District in Alpena, Michigan.  Through the generosity of the Park Family Foundation, the APlex provides economical recreational and social options for area residents.

The APlex offers some incredible ammenities: like the Interlude Ballroom, which can accommodate up to 650 guests for social occasions or provide nearly 15,000 square feet of vendor space for trade shows.  We have 4 indoor tennis courts, a gymnasium, additional conference spaces, large catering kitchen, aerobic area, corporate fitness and outdoor beach volleyball courts.  As you can see, we offer a lot, all under one roof!

The APlex is home to the APlex Tennis Center, Northern Tiger Karate Club and the United Way of Northeast Michigan.
